I am fluent in Spanish (and English,) and I speak French and German decently. That’s because I’ve lived a good part of my life abroad. Now I’m into creating programs for women who want to create different outcomes in their lives, including for those women who want to get totally past their fear of public speaking. It’s a matter of getting compassionate and objective feedback to take your life up a notch or two or three.
Sometimes I give presentation skills and leadership workshops or talks.
Credentials: BA in Economics and Spanish from Sweet Briar College (cum laude btw), MBA University of Dallas, PhD Communication Studies, Regent University. Former editor of Management Perspective bilingual newsletter published for international business community in Caracas, Venezuela. Taught at School of Communication, East Carolina University, 1997-2009, except for three years of that time I was back in Caracas, where I taught English at Merici Academy. I am now based in the lovely city of Charleston, SC.
I have three awesome kids: a teenage son and daughter and a pre-teen daughter. When they were younger, I had the most fun homeschooling them. I learned so much — that experience helped me rock the GRE which I took at age 40!
Find me on Twitter and Facebook!
Great new look.
Hi Dr. Mixon,
I am currently a graduate student at ECU in the Counselor Education program. I am applying for admission to the doctoral program at Regent University for Counselor Education and Supervision. I was wondering if you would be willing to talk about your experience with Regent during your doctoral program…I think it would be very helpful for me to be able to discuss Regent with a former student.
Please let me know if this is something you would be willing to do- my email is: LMG0511@ecu.edu . Thank you!
Hi, Laura!
Would love to talk to you about Regent. I just sent you email asking for your phone number. Happy Friday! Go Pirates! 😉
Hey Laura! Your comment on Christine Kane’s post today really clicked with me, so I followed the link to your page. Looks like you have great stuff going on here. I’m also a big Brooke Castillo fan, so it’s cool to see you also have a link to her. I look forward to exploring your site…
Hi, Joy! Wasn’t Christine’s post right on? Welcome to Mixonian and I hope you’ll be a regular!
Nice, I’m a sort of “recovering academic” myself. Feels nice to do something for yourself instead of arguing with morons, right?
They’re not all morons, I have lovely friends in the academic world. But I definitely get what you’re saying. Thanks for stopping by.
